Under the national GP contract, responsibility for out of hours care belongs to the Clinical Commisioning Group who have contracted it out to Primecare.
They will provide all out of hours cover for patients living in the Chelmsford Area.
The Out of Hours Service can be contacted through NHS 111
This service will operate between the hours of 6:30pm and 8:00am on weekdays and from 6:30pm Friday until 8:00am Monday, as well as Bank Holidays.
In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call NHS 111. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or, arrangements made for you to see a doctor.
Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
Call 999 in an emergency. Sudden onset severe chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
You can access local health care services by booking an appointment with your GP. If the surgery is closed you can arrange to see a local out of hours GP by calling NHS 111. NHS 111 is staffed by a team of fully trained advisors, supported by experienced nurses and paramedics. They will ask questions to assess your symptoms, provide healthcare advice and/or direct you to a local health service that can help you best.
You could also visit your local pharmacy. Your pharmacist will be able to offer advice on prescription medications, as well as a range of common problems, including colds, women’s health, skin conditions, allergies and aches and pains. Some pharmacies offer services such as flu vaccinations, emergency contraception and chlamydia screening and treatment. Most pharmacies now have a private consultation area where you are able to discuss issues without being overheard by other members of the public. To find your nearest pharmacy visit www.nhs.uk.
